Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about chiropractic care at our practice.

Your first visit includes a comprehensive consultation where Dr. Petersen will discuss your health history and current concerns, followed by a thorough physical examination. X-rays may be taken if clinically necessary. Based on the findings, Dr. Petersen will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals. The entire first visit typically takes 45-60 minutes.
The $49 New Patient Special includes a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Petersen, a comprehensive chiropractic examination, X-rays if clinically needed, and a custom treatment plan. This package is normally valued at $250 or more. It's designed to give you a complete picture of your spinal health and a clear path to relief.
We accept Medicare, VA Community Care, CareCredit, and most PPO insurance plans. We recommend calling our office to verify your specific plan's coverage before your visit. Our staff is happy to help you understand your benefits and any out-of-pocket costs.
In most cases, no referral is needed. California allows direct access to chiropractic care. However, some insurance plans (particularly HMOs) may require a referral. VA Community Care patients will need a referral from their VA provider. Contact us and we'll help you determine if a referral is needed for your specific plan.
Most patients experience little to no discomfort during an adjustment. You may hear a popping sound, which is simply gas being released from the joint — similar to cracking your knuckles. Some patients experience mild soreness after their first few adjustments, similar to the feeling after a workout. This typically resolves within 24 hours.
The number of visits varies depending on your condition, its severity, and how long you've been experiencing symptoms. After your initial examination, Dr. Petersen will recommend a treatment plan with a specific number of visits. Some patients find relief in just a few visits, while others with chronic conditions may benefit from ongoing care.
While we do our best to accommodate walk-ins, we recommend scheduling an appointment to minimize your wait time. You can book online through our website or call our office. Same-day appointments are often available.
Yes! Chiropractic care is generally safe and beneficial during pregnancy. Dr. Petersen uses gentle, modified techniques appropriate for expectant mothers. Many pregnant patients find relief from back pain, sciatica, and pelvic discomfort through chiropractic care. Always inform us about your pregnancy so we can adjust our approach accordingly.
Non-surgical spinal decompression is a FDA-cleared therapy that uses computer-controlled traction to gently stretch the spine. This creates negative pressure within the disc, which can help retract herniated or bulging disc material, relieve pressure on nerves, and promote healing. It's particularly effective for herniated discs, sciatica, and chronic back pain.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement. Athletic wear or casual clothes work well. Avoid restrictive clothing like tight jeans or formal wear. If you're coming from work, we can provide a gown if needed.
Yes, we offer flexible payment options including CareCredit financing. We also offer affordable care plan packages for patients who need extended treatment. Our goal is to make quality chiropractic care accessible to everyone. Ask our staff about available options.
Cold laser therapy (also called low-level laser therapy) uses specific wavelengths of light to penetrate tissue and stimulate cellular healing. It reduces inflammation, accelerates tissue repair, and provides pain relief without heat or discomfort. Sessions are painless and typically last 15-20 minutes. It's often used alongside adjustments for enhanced results.
Absolutely. Many headaches, including tension headaches and migraines, originate from misalignments in the cervical spine (neck). Chiropractic adjustments can relieve pressure on nerves, reduce muscle tension, and improve blood flow to the head. Many of our patients report significant reduction in headache frequency and severity.

Yes, we specialize in treating auto accident injuries including whiplash, back pain, neck pain, and soft tissue injuries. It's important to seek care as soon as possible after an accident, even if you feel fine — many injuries don't show symptoms immediately.
